Electric Co-ops Co-Sponsor Bio-Gas Industry Day-Long Seminar

New opportunities in the bio-gas industry will be explored in a day-long seminar hosted by the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation (IFBF) on February 28. Methane is the most common biogas, which is produced from the fermentation or digestion of organic materials such as manure.

The seminar will examine bio-gas industry trends, economics and keys to developing a successful bio-gas project. Specific topics include: opportunities for agricultural and rural communities; availability of financial assistance; infrastructure needs and economics. Market opportunities such as electrical generation, biogas production, fertilizer production and methane credit marketing will also be explored.

"This is a great opportunity for farmers, utility representatives, food and renewable fuel processors, manufacturers and government officials," said Denny Harding, IFBF business services administrator. "This will help them examine opportunities to reduce energy costs and benefit the environment at the same time."

The seminar will take place Wednesday, Feb. 28 from 8:30 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Iowa Farm Bureau office in West Des Moines. The cost of the seminar is $25, which includes lunch and seminar materials.

The Registration deadline is Friday, Feb. 23. For a registration form, visit www.iowafarmbureau.com or call (866) 598-3693.

Sponsors of the event include: Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives, Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities, Iowa Department of Natural Resources - Energy Division, Iowa Energy Center, Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, Iowa Water Pollution Control Association, Sebesta Blomberg, USDA Rural Development and Ziegler - Caterpillar.
