Iowa's Electric Cooperatives Assisting Illinois with Power Restoration Efforts
Areas hit by winter storm, ice
Des Moines, Iowa, Jan. 15, 2007 - The Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives has announced crews from Iowa's electric cooperatives are in Illinois assisting with power restoration efforts due to the winter storm which hit the area. A significant amount of ice has left thousands without power.
At this time, about 28 linemen and 14 trucks - from 11 Iowa cooperatives - are assisting the Illinois electric cooperatives impacted by the storm, specifically in the Carlinville and Winchester areas which are southwest of Springfield, Ill. An additional four Iowa crews and 10 linemen traveled to Auburn, Illinois, to help with power restoration efforts on Saturday and returned to Iowa on Monday. The crews in Carlinville and Winchester are expected to work in the area for approximately one week.
Iowa cooperatives currently participating in the restoration efforts include Consumers Energy, Marshalltown; East-Central Iowa REC, Urbana; Farmers Electric Cooperative, Greenfield; Franklin REC, Hampton; Glidden REC, Glidden; Humboldt County REC, Humboldt; Linn County REC, Marion; Midland Power Cooperative, Jefferson; Prairie Energy Cooperative, Clarion/Garner; Pella Cooperative Electric, Pella; and T.I.P. REC, Brooklyn.
The Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives, formed in 1942, is the Des Moines-based statewide association representing 37 distribution cooperatives in Iowa and six generation and transmission cooperatives serving more than 210,000 rural homes, farms and industries in all 99 counties. The IAEC provides legislative, regulatory, safety, communications and education and training programs and services to its members. The IAEC is also a Touchstone Energy partner - a national alliance of local, consumer-owned electric cooperatives. More than 600 Touchstone Energy cooperatives in 45 states are delivering energy and energy solutions to more than 22 million customers every day.
