Regional Meeting to Focus on Critical Issues Facing Energy Industry

Sept. 5, 2006 - Representatives of electric co-ops from Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin, including will gather in Springfield, Illinois, Sept. 12-14, to share their experiences and discuss the physical, financial and political challenges facing the electric utility industry. Some of the key issues include:
  • Power Supply and the Push for Energy Efficiency
  • Climate Change and its Impact on Public Policy and Co-ops
  • Developing a Talented, Technical workforce in Today's Electric Industry
More than 700 electric co-op officials from the three states, including Iowa, will convene to get the latest information on competition and consumer protection in the electric utility industry. Attendees are locally elected directors and key staff from 83 cooperative electric utilities serving more than 1.7 million people.

The Springfield meeting is second in a series of seven 2006 Regional Meetings convened by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). The Regional Meetings continue the association�s grassroots policymaking process, which begins at the local co-op level and culminates at NRECA's Annual Meeting, to be held in Las Vegas, in February 2007.
