Federated Rural Electric Insurance Exchange Names Irwin as President/CEO

FEDERATED RURAL ELECTRIC INSURANCE EXCHANGE NAMES
PHIL IRWIN AS PRESIDENT AND CEO

LENEXA, Kan. (May 1, 2006) - Federated Rural Electric Insurance Exchange today announced that Phil Irwin has been named President and CEO of the company and will succeed Frank X. Fraas, who is retiring effective July 1, 2006.

Irwin has been with the company for 18 years and most recently served as CFO and Senior Vice President of Finance. The company, located at 11875 W. 85th Street in Lenexa, Kan., is the leading provider of property and casualty insurance for rural electric utilities in 40 states.

"Phil has been an influential leader within our company for the past 18 years, and we feel he is an excellent choice to take the President and CEO leadership role and move the company into the future," said Don McCracken, Chairman of the Board of Directors. "His extensive knowledge of the rural utility culture will ensure that this company continues to provide the best security, service and solutions to its members."

Irwin was named CFO and Senior Vice President of Finance in April 2001. From 1988 to 2001 he served as the company's Vice President of Finance. Irwin has been responsible for managing the company's financial statements, internal controls, tax filings and investment strategies as well as overseeing the information technology department and actuarial functions. Prior to joining Federated, Irwin was a senior tax accountant for United Telephone (a subsidiary of Sprint) and a senior accountant for Ernst & Young. Irwin graduated Cum Laude from Kansas State University with a B.S. degree in accounting. He and his family reside in Olathe.

Frank Fraas has served in the position of President and CEO of Federated Rural Electric Insurance Exchange since 1991. He has been instrumental in building the financial strength and security of the company during the past fifteen years. Fraas joined the company in 1989 as Vice President of Claims. Fraas will continue as a consultant for the company through March 2007.
