Iowa Area Development Group Honored by USDA Rural Development

U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Under Secretary, Thomas Dorr visited the Iowa Area Development Group (IADG) offices in West Des Moines recently to thank and honor IADG with the department's "Economic Vision Award." Secretary Dorr's visit and recognition was in appreciation of IADG's business and community development leadership in rural Iowa.

Rand Fisher, President, Iowa Area Development Group stated, "Our mission on behalf of Iowa's rural electric cooperatives has been greatly enhanced through the strategic partnership with USDA Rural Development." IADG and Iowa's electric cooperatives have captured over $25 million dollars from USDA for rural development projects ranging from community infrastructure and critical service improvements to business development that supports economic development growth throughout Iowa.

Secretary Dorr noted that he was pleased that the award coincided with IADG's twentieth anniversary observances. He praised Iowas electric cooperatives for their strong and sustaining commitment to rural economic development.

Since 1985 IADG has partnered with Iowa's rural electric cooperatives and select municipal electric utilities to help grow Iowa communities and companies. Through this partnership IADG's economic, community and businesses development services have assisted with over 1,000 projects, generating $3.5 billion in capital investment and creating 30,000 jobs for Iowa.
