Job Details

Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) is currently searching for an Apprentice Electrician to join the team in Creston, IA. This position is responsible for plant electrical maintenance, inspection and recordkeeping, and operating the plant crane. This position is covered under a collective bargaining agreement and provides excellent company benefits.


  • Maintain plant motors and related electrical components.
  • Install conduit and wire to maintain, expand and/or improve plant electrical circuits.
  • Maintain battery banks in plant and both combustion turbine buildings.
  • Maintain combustion turbine control computers.
  • Order electrical supplies and maintain inventory.
  • Inspect combustion turbines, boiler buildings, generators, heaters, air conditioners, and fire systems.
  • Check grounds on plant electrical receptacles.
  • Maintain plant records of electrical maintenance activities.
  • Operate overhead crane in plant to lift various items, as required.

Requirements and Critical Success Factors

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Must have successfully completed an accredited Electrical course.
  • Four years of experience in power plant electrical maintenance; or six years of experience in other electrical work; or complete in-house plant Apprentice Electrician training program.
  • Ability to properly use various hand tools, power tools and electronic test equipment.
  • Ability to read and understand electrical schematics.
  • Ability to comprehend and retain written and verbal instruction.
  • Ability to plan, organize, prioritize and respond to multiple tasks in a timely manner.
  • Good written and verbal communication.
