Northeast Missouri Electric Power Cooperative (Northeast Power) is a transmission cooperative delivering power to northeast Missouri and southeast Iowa. We are currently accepting applications for the position of Apprentice Lineman at the Palmyra, Missouri, location. This is an hourly position with core working hours of Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This position requires residency within 30-minutes of the Palmyra headquarters.

What You Will Do:
All line and substation work will typically be at transmission voltages with minimal exposure to distribution voltages. In this position you will successfully complete a planned program of progressive training and experiences that will result in the development of skills and knowledge necessary for construction, operation and maintenance of a reliable electric transmission system and substations. In addition, you will: 

  • Climb poles, structural steel and ladders of all types 
  • Efficiently operate a bucket truck or manlift to perform jobs required off the poles, structural steel and ladders
  • Gain practical knowledge of safe working practices, electrical power terminology, conductors, transformers, regulators, fuses, poles, crossarms, grounding assemblies and various types of hardware
  • Inspect existing power line looking for problems and trouble shoot problems
  • Participate in tailgate sessions, job briefings, safety meetings and progress toward attaining Journeyman Lineman status in a timely manner through on-the-job and formal training

What We Are Looking For:
This role requires a safety-conscience, detail-oriented individual who has basic utility knowledge and is familiar with various types of electrical equipment. In addition, we are looking for:

  • High School diploma, or equivalent, and graduate of approved Power Line School
  • Experience in electric utility operations, including system construction and maintenance, desirable
  • Must have a safety-first attitude
  • Must be a certified climber and able to operate a bucket truck
  • Able to operate equipment with both automatic and manual transmissions
  • Experienced with personal computers, utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Able to lift and/or carry up-to 50-pounds, good eye-hand coordination and ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Must possess, or obtain, and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement
