Northeast Missouri Electric Power Cooperative (Northeast Power) is a transmission cooperative delivering power to northeast Missouri and southeast Iowa. We are currently seeking an Apprentice Substation Technician at the Palmyra, Missouri, location. This is an hourly position with core working hours of Monday through Thursday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. This position requires residency within 30-minutes of the Palmyra headquarters.

What You Will Do:
We are looking for candidates who are passionate about working with their hands and working outdoors to perform construction, operation and maintenance of substations as well as maintenance and repair of line equipment. In addition, you will: 

  • Assist in the construction, installation, calibration, testing and maintenance of all types of meters and metering equipment
  • Develop a working knowledge of substations, line sections, switching operations, system apparatus and devices
  • Assist in installation and removal of mobile substation
  • Acquire knowledge to successfully work on energized equipment at any voltage, conforming with training and safe work practices
  • Gain experience to operate equipment, climb and work on substation structures

What We Are Looking For:
This role requires a safety-conscience, detail-oriented individual who has basic knowledge of three-phase power relationships and is familiar with basic testing equipment. In addition, we are looking for:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required; Technical Degree in Electronics Technology or equivalent, highly desirable; Licensed Electrician will be considered
  • 2+ years experience in electric utility transmission, distribution and substation construction, operations and maintenance and/or 2+ years in meter/relay work or related fields, desirable
  • Able to read and follow directions, diagrams, blueprints and schematics
  • Experienced with personal computers, utilizing Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Able to lift and/or carry up-to 50-pounds, good eye-hand coordination and ability to work in adverse weather conditions
  • Currently hold and maintain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with tanker endorsement
