People’s Energy Cooperative is looking for an Area Lineworker to work in Stewartville, MN.

As an Area Lineworker:
Assumes responsibility for the construction and maintenance of the electric system and service to members in the assigned service area to ensure prompt, professional service is provided, and system reliability meets or exceeds standards.

Accepts service, outage, and emergency calls (during and after business hours) and reports as the first responder to investigate, direct and/or perform the necessary work to restore service or address concerns in the assigned service area. The expectation is that the Area Lineworker will accept an average of fifty percent (50%) of the outage calls in their area over a rolling twelve (12) month period.

Serves as an ambassador for the Cooperative and assumes ownership and responsibility for the assigned service area and other areas within the Cooperative’s service territory to ensure the promotion of goodwill between the Cooperative, its members, the community, and general public.

Completes monthly inspection records of substations, line equipment, and other equipment as assigned to ensure proper documentation of maintenance records.

Works on an area crew but may be assigned to assist as needed in other areas.

Utilizes the Cooperative’s system maps, interprets staking sheets, understands overhead, underground, and special construction specifications reads circuit and sectionalizing diagrams and is familiar with the proper operation and application of all sectionalizing devices used on the Cooperative’s system to render prompt, efficient, and reliable electric service as well as to ensure a safe, healthy, and efficient workplace and/or work site.

Uses appropriate materials and supplies required for line construction to inspect, construct, operate, upgrade, maintain, and repair cooperative underground and overhead transmission and distribution lines, substations, equipment, and apparatuses associated with the Cooperatives system including, but not limited to tree trimming, transformers, regulators, regulator panels, oil circuit reclosers, auto boosters, capacitors, switch gear, fuse holders, insulators, lightning arresters, AMR/AMI equipment, regulators, and OCR’s to ensure compliance with all RUS specifications, applicable provisions of the National Electrical Safety Code and as detailed in the staking sheets.

EDUCATION: High school diploma or equivalent required. Graduation from vocational/technical school in the power line studies field is preferred for journeyman lineworkers in this position and required for apprentices who hold this position as an apprentice. It is preferred that an area lineworker possess a qualified journey lineworker certificate.


EXPERIENCE: Experience, training, testing, and abilities of a qualified journey lineworker and/or have completed a recognized apprenticeship training program. Qualified journey lineworker preferred. Consideration may be given to an apprentice lineworker while completing the Cooperative’s apprenticeship training program as required to obtain journey lineworker status.

KNOWLEDGE: Must possess a valid Minnesota drivers’ license with the class A CDL endorsement or obtain a Class A CDL endorsement within six months of their hire date. Required to observe all traffic laws, rules, and regulations in the operation of cooperative vehicles. Must remain insurable to operate all cooperative vehicles required for the position.

Use two-way radio and comply with operating practices in its use to assure safe construction, maintenance, and repair of the electric system.

Understand that considerable hazards exist, including falls, electric shock, electric flash, automobile traffic, and falling objects.

Working knowledge of iPad, computer, and other electronic devices.

Prior experience with an electric cooperative preferred along with a background in related software applications, such as NISC.
