The Board of Directors for East-Central Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative (ECIREC) is seeking competent and enthusiastic candidates to succeed the current Chief Executive Officer (CEO) who will retire next summer. ECIREC has retained NRECA’s Executive Search Group to facilitate the search process.

East-Central Iowa Rural Electric Cooperative is a member-owned cooperative serving parts of twelve counties in East-Central Iowa. ECIREC employs 33 professionals serving approximately 9,000 consumer-members over 2,282 miles of distribution line. The Cooperative has annual revenue of $22 million and total utility plant of $59 million. About two-thirds of the Cooperative’s sales is from residential and farm customers, with remaining from commercial and industrial consumers. The utility’s headquarters is located in Urbana, Iowa and has district operations offices in Vinton and Independence. ECIREC purchases wholesale power from Central Iowa Power Cooperative. The Cooperative is also a member of the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives, NRECA, CFC, NISC, CRC, RESCO, and Federated Insurance.


Successful candidates must have a minimum of 10 years electric utility experience, preferably within the rural electric program, and at least 5 years of leadership experience in a senior management position. A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate field is preferred. Candidates must have broad electric utility management experience and knowledge that includes such areas as operations and safety, finance, strategic planning, team building, and member communications. The successful candidate will be a person of integrity and have excellent people and communications skills, proven leadership ability, and a strong commitment to “Cooperative Principles”.

Urbana, Iowa is located on Interstate-380 only 20 minutes north of Cedar Rapids, and 30 minutes south of Waterloo. It is a thriving, close-knit, community and is one of Iowa’s fastest growing small towns. It combines a favorable location and a planning philosophy to attract growth. The school district is highly rated by patrons because of its 14 – 1 student-teacher ratio and comprehensive curriculum, including college prep classes. Residents will tell you it’s a great place to live and work. The area offers opportunities to enjoy cultural events as well to take advantage of many outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, hiking, and golf.
