Job Details

Central Iowa Power Cooperative (CIPCO) is currently searching for a Compliance Specialist to join the team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This position provides administrative and technical support for the regulatory compliance function, including preparing and maintaining data and documentation and reviewing regulations of federal, regional, and state commissions and agencies.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure understanding of regulations issued and enforceable by federal, state and other external agencies as needed and relate applicable compliance regulations to appropriate CIPCO functions in coordination with responsible CIPCO management and staff.
  • Monitor the development of new and revised regulations including review and approval status and future enforcement dates. Communicate impactful changes to the Regulatory Compliance Administrator in a timely manner.
  • Serve as a primary resource in the utilization of multiple databases used to organize compliance-related documents and evidence. Evaluate existing documentation against compliance requirements to identify possible gaps.
  • Perform initial drafting of compliance policies and procedures to ensure the risk responses are effectively carried out.
  • Coordinate the collection of compliance information data requests as needed from neighboring entities to support evidentiary requirements.
  • Support Regulatory Compliance Administrator in the management of internal and external data requests, certifications, inquiries, audits, inspections, and other enforcement activities as needed.
  • Assist in the development and delivery of procedures, training, and educational materials to ensure that the cooperative maintains regulatory compliance.

Requirements

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business or other related discipline with a minimum 2 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience; experience working as legal assistant or paralegal helpful
  • NERC compliance experience preferred
  • Electric utility industry knowledge preferred
  • Detail oriented with high degree of accuracy
  • Ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects simultaneously
  • Organization, prioritization and time management skills
  • Strong vocabulary skills
  • Ability to perform well under strict deadlines
  • Effective interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
