Linn County REC is currently seeking a Contractor and Safety Program Manager who will manage contractor projects, coordinate all aspects of the safety program, and provide ongoing support to Operations. This is a chance to make a meaningful impact by driving safety initiatives and ensuring that all work is carried out efficiently, safely, and in alignment with company values.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Coordinates contractor projects such as substation upgrades, maintenance and repair.  
  • Directs contracted right-of-way crews.  
  • Schedules and supervises Operations employees in the absence of the Line Superintendent.
  • Coordinates monthly safety meetings, ensuring employees are properly trained and certified to perform job-related tasks.
  • Communicates with various other utilities to coordinate and schedule joint work as required.
  • Administers Spill Response Plan and monthly inspections.
  • Advises employees on proper PPE and safety rules required for their job duties.
  • Communicates to manager and/or supervisor of safety violations.
  • Represents Linn County REC at meetings with other utilities and organizations.
  • Administers Safety Achievement Program.
  • Conducts inspection of Cooperative assets on an ongoing basis.
  • Files worker’s compensation claims and is the point of contact for workers’ compensation claim administration.
  • Performs regular on-site crew visits to assess use of proper PPE and Operating Procedures.
  • Completes thorough investigation of all reportable accidents.
  • Assists member/consumers with any concerns regarding contracted or Linn County REC crews.
  • Obtains work orders from Engineering and produces material sheets, staking sheets and procures all required permits for construction or retirement projects as needed.
  • Operates SCADA systems.

Starting salary range: $92,500 - $115,600

Requirements

To be successful in this position, you will have:

  • Ten years of electric utility experience is required.  
  • Technical certification in Powerline Installation Program is helpful.   

 

Must also possess the following knowledge and experience:

  • Must possess effective working knowledge of a personal computer, Windows Operating Systems, and Microsoft Office and Outlook.   
  • Knowledge of current OSHA reporting rules is required.  Prior training in safety issues and regulations pertaining to electrical utilities is necessary.  
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.  
  • Must be able to plan and organize duties to meet deadlines.  
  • Must maintain a valid Iowa Driver’s license. Iowa Class “A” Airbrakes Commercial Driver’s License is helpful.
