Director of Safety and Loss Control - Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives, Des Moines

The Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives (IAEC) seeks a full-time Safety and Loss Control Director.
Key responsibilities include managing the planning and implementation of safety training programs for member cooperatives and association staff in compliance with regulations issued under OSHA, DOT, National Electric Safety Code, among many others. To serve as a resource to members for safety-related matters. To make visits to the cooperatives and participate in accreditation reviews, accident investigation and inspections. Coordinate the Association’s member disaster recovery efforts in state and regionally. Primary resource for reporting department activities and initiatives to the Safety and Loss Control Committee. Active member of various national electric industry safety instructor organizations. Manage and direct activities of a staff of three safety instructors and a support person.
This position reports to the Executive Vice President. Applicants should have a thorough understanding and broad background and knowledge associated with electric energy and safety and health that would be acquired through education and/or several years of experience in progressively more responsible positions. Based on our member cooperatives needs, at least 30% of the Directors time is required on in-state travel. Some out-of-state travel is also necessary. Good problem-solving and analytical skills are needed. The successful candidate must have excellent communication and presentation skills, in addition to strong audio visual and computer aptitudes.
As part of association’s leadership team, Department Directors are expected to perform the required daily and overall management tasks from IAEC’s headquarters facility in Urbandale, Iowa. A strong preference is that the Director reside full-time in the greater Des Moines area to carry out their responsibilities but would consider a candidate that has a second residence in the greater Des Moines area as meeting this expectation.
