T.I.P. Rural Electric Cooperative is seeking qualified applicants for the position of either a Journeyman or Apprentice Lineman at our headquarters in Brooklyn, Iowa.  T.I.P. REC is a member-owned electric distribution cooperative serving approximately 7,000 meters with 1,764 miles of line in portions of 10 counties.  In this position, you will work closely with our team to develop the knowledge, ability, and other qualifications to perform the duties of a Journeyman or Apprentice Lineman.  The position is subject to additional after-hours work and on-call rotation.

Regular working hours:  7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday – Friday (with overtime as necessary)

Essential Duties

  • Overhead and underground construction and maintenance of distribution lines, including tree trimming.
  • Patrolling line to check for needed repairs or unsafe conditions.
  • Various duties related to customer service, including but not limited to, service changes, troubleshooting outages, disconnecting and connecting services, voltage testing, and locating underground lines.
  • Ensuring trucks, tools, and equipment are properly stocked, used, and maintained.
  • Understand and utilize safety equipment.
  • Learn and comply with all safety policies, OSHA rules, and regulations.
  • Ability to read, write, and utilize computers or tablets.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

 

Requirements

Requirements
Must meet the cooperative members service requirements; working closely with other linemen and employees in the operations department and others within the cooperative to ensure efficient and effective operations.

  • High school diploma and diploma/degree from an accredited Utility Line Program or competency with electric distribution system attained through experience.
  • Must have a valid Class A CDL driver’s license.
  • The ability to meet all safety requirements set forth by T.I.P. Rural Electric Cooperative Operating Procedures along with OSHA and ANSI standards.
  • Must meet the physical requirements of the job which include successful completion of a competent climber, pole top and bucket rescue certifications as well as handle heavy lifting and operating electric utility trucks, tools, and associated equipment.
  • Residency requirements are to reside no more than 10 miles and 20 minutes response time from residence to the reporting shop.
  • Punctual and regular attendance.
