Job Details

Franklin Rural Electric Cooperative (Franklin REC), a member-owned electric cooperative headquartered in Hampton, Iowa, is seeking qualified applicants for a Lineman position. The cooperative will consider candidates for either a Journeyman Lineman or Apprentice Lineman position, depending on experience and qualifications.

Duties include those related to electric distribution service, such as construction, maintenance, and repair of electric distribution lines and related facilities; service work; troubleshooting outages; and other assigned duties. The position reports to the Line Superintendent or Crew Chief.

Journeyman Lineman:
$51.23 – $52.48 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.

Apprentice Lineman:
$37.17 – $46.83 per hour, depending on apprenticeship progression.

Position Summary
The Lineman performs construction, operation, maintenance, and repair of the cooperative’s electric distribution system to provide safe and reliable electric service to members.

Depending on qualifications, the successful candidate will be hired as either a Journeyman Lineman or Apprentice Lineman.

The position works as part of the cooperative’s line crew performing overhead and underground distribution construction, maintenance, and service work.
 

Essential Functions

  • Construct, maintain, and repair overhead and underground electric distribution facilities
  • Respond to outages and troubleshoot system problems
  • Climb poles and work from aerial devices in the performance of linework
  • Install and maintain transformers, conductors, and related equipment
  • Operate line trucks, digger derricks, and other line construction equipment
  • Read and interpret staking sheets, work orders, and system maps
  • Maintain tools, vehicles, and equipment in safe working condition
  • Participate in an on-call rotation and respond to outages as required
  • Follow all cooperative safety policies and procedures
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Working Conditions
This position requires working outdoors in all weather conditions and performing physically demanding work, including climbing poles, lifting heavy materials, and operating equipment used in electric line construction and maintenance.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Completion of a power line program or related technical training preferred
  • Journeyman applicants must be a qualified Journeyman Lineman with electric distribution experience
  • Valid driver’s license required
  • Class A CDL required or ability to obtain one within a specified timeframe after hire


Residency Requirement
The successful candidate must reside within 30 minutes (approximately 15 miles) of the Franklin REC headquarters to meet outage response requirements.
