State / Federal Internship Scholarships

Iowa's electric cooperatives are excited to offer two scholarship opportunities exclusively for Iowa Youth Tour alumni who pursue internship experiences in government.

Federal Internship Scholarship Program

The Federal Internship Scholarship Program provides a $3,000 scholarship to eligible Youth Tour alumni who secure a congressional internship or an internship within a branch of the federal government in Washington, D.C.

This scholarship is designed to help offset expenses such as housing, transportation and other internship-related costs while giving students valuable hands-on experience in the public policy and advocacy process.

Applicants must:

• Be an Iowa Youth Tour alumnus.
• Have secured a congressional internship or an internship within a branch of the federal government in Washington, D.C.
• Demonstrate an interest in government, civics, or public policy through academics, leadership activities or community involvement.

Up to two scholarships will be awarded each year.

State Government Internship Scholarship Program

Interested in serving at the Iowa Statehouse or interning in state government?

The State Government Internship Scholarship Program awards a $500 scholarship to Iowa Youth Tour alumni who are selected as Iowa Statehouse Pages or who obtain an internship within Iowa state government.

This scholarship is designed to help offset expenses such as housing and transportation while giving students valuable hands-on experience in the public policy and advocacy process.

This program encourages students to explore careers in government, public policy and civic leadership while strengthening their connection to Iowa's electric cooperatives.

Applicants must:

• Be an Iowa Youth Tour alumnus.
• Be accepted to the Iowa Statehouse Page Program or secure an internship within Iowa state government.
• Demonstrate an interest in government, public affairs or community leadership.

Up to three scholarships will be awarded each year.

Sharing Your Experience

Recipients of either scholarship will be asked to return to their local electric cooperative after completing their internship or Page experience to share what they learned and how the opportunity impacted their understanding of government and public service.

These presentations help inspire future Youth Tour participants while strengthening the connection between cooperative communities and emerging leaders.
